$2.5 billion in funding has been made available for the connection between Las Vegas and Southern California.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that $2.5 billion in private activity bonds have been approved to help fund a high-speed rail line connecting Las Vegas, Nevada, to Southern California. The 218-mile Brightline West Passenger Rail project will run mostly alongside the I-15 and, upon completion, will allow passengers to travel from one end of the line to the other in two hours, roughly half the time it takes to drive the same distance.
“Building a high-speed rail corridor from Las Vegas to Southern California will drive economic investment and opportunity across the region,” said Transportation Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg. “Residents and visitors alike will benefit from access to a fast and sustainable travel option that better connects key cities.”
